A journey of grace & grit.
This was a book twice borrowed from a friend and in my stack of books to finish this year. And while the storyline is predictable, it does carry immense levels of motivation and insight.
Pulitzer prize winner Michael Vitez takes you into the life of Matthew Miller for about 3 years. From a near-death accident to the University of Pennsylvania Medical School to the Ironman Triathlon in Cozumel, this Lifetime-style read keeps you engrossed. This quick story helped me remember that inspiration is always two-sided, and that perseverance is everything. Without giving the entire story away, let's just say I was inspired to re-assess my own life goals and personal roadblocks.
I fell in love with an inspiring quote by Winston Churchill that Matt shared after reaching a monumental goal in his life:
"Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts."This semester, reading has had the opportunity to re-enter my life. While I likely don't have the time to read a novel every 2-3 weeks, I am consciously making the time to do so. Reading helps me distract myself and relax from the everyday stresses. I can easily sit somewhere and get lost with characters, plot and story lines and pause my own. I'm not suggesting that everyone go out and buy Ulysses, Lord of the Flies, or anything close to that deep--because ANY reading will enhance your being.
